Sending SMS from GoHighLevel to US numbers requires A2P 10DLC registration. Skip it and your messages get filtered or blocked outright. This walks through the whole GoHighLevel A2P 10DLC registration, field by field, and covers the mistakes that get submissions rejected.

Short version

  • A2P 10DLC lives in the sub account, not the agency view.
  • Registration has two parts, brand registration and campaign registration.
  • You need a business email on your own domain, not Gmail or Yahoo.
  • Most rejections come from a mismatch between your consent language and your sample messages.
  • Carrier fees apply, so only submit when everything is correct.

What A2P 10DLC actually is

A2P stands for application to person, meaning messages sent by software rather than typed by a human. 10DLC means ten digit long code, the ordinary looking phone numbers businesses send from.

US carriers require every business sending A2P traffic to register. They want to know which company is sending, what kind of messages, and how recipients agreed to receive them. Registered traffic gets delivered at full speed. Unregistered traffic gets throttled, filtered into spam, or blocked completely.

So GoHighLevel A2P registration is not a GoHighLevel rule. It is a carrier rule that GoHighLevel passes on to you, which is why the process feels bureaucratic. You are effectively filing paperwork with the mobile networks.

Two registrations, one form

Brand registration identifies your company. Campaign registration describes the messages you intend to send. GoHighLevel walks you through both in a single flow, which is why the form is long.

What you need before you start

Gather these first. Stopping halfway to find a tax ID is how people end up submitting something wrong.

  • Your legal business name, exactly as registered. Not your trading name.
  • Your EIN or business tax ID, and your CP-575 letter if you have it.
  • A business email on your own domain, and access to that inbox for the verification code.
  • Your registered business address.
  • An authorised representative, their name, email, phone and job title.
  • A live website with a privacy policy and visible opt-in language.
The email matters more than you think

Use an address on your own domain, for example you@yourcompany.com. Free domains such as Gmail and Yahoo slow approval down and can trigger a rejection on their own. You also need to open that inbox during the process, so pick one you can access right now.

Step 1: open the Trust Center

1

Find the A2P section

1 minute

Before anything else, check where you are. To register for A2P 10DLC, make sure you are on one of your sub accounts. A2P lives in the sub account Phone System Trust Center, not in the agency view. This is the first thing people get wrong, and they spend ten minutes hunting through agency settings for a menu that is not there.

  1. Switch to a sub account using the account switcher at the top of the screen. If you are in the agency view, the Trust Center will not appear at all.
  2. From the left side navigation bar, click Settings.
  3. Click Phone System to open phone and compliance settings.
  4. Click Trust Center to manage A2P messaging compliance.
  5. Click Start Registration or Register for A2P to begin brand and campaign registration. A registration form appears.

Step 2: business information

2

Brand registration

5 minutes

This section is your brand registration. Carriers check these details against public business records, so accuracy matters more than speed. A name that does not match your registration is an instant rejection.

  1. Under Where is your business registered?, select U.S. if your business is registered in the United States.
  2. Under Does your business have a tax ID?, select Yes, my business has a tax ID if you have one. If you do not, see the sole proprietor section further down.
  3. If you have a CP-575 form, click Click to upload and upload your PDF. This is the IRS letter confirming your EIN, and uploading it speeds up verification noticeably.
  4. Click the Legal business name field and type your legal business name, for example Brightfuture LTD. Use the registered name rather than a trading name or an abbreviation.
  5. Click Business type and select your business type.
  6. Click Business industry and select your business industry.
  7. Click Business registration ID type and select your registration ID type.
  8. Click the Business registration number field and type your registration number.
  9. Click the Business email field and type a business domain email, for example yapit91253@fidhost.com. Avoid Gmail and Yahoo here, because free email domains slow or block approval.
  10. Click Business region of operations and select USA & Canada.
  11. Click Continue to move to contact information.

Match your records exactly

Legal name, EIN and address must match what the IRS and your state hold. Carriers verify against those records automatically, and a single character difference, an abbreviated Inc or a missing LLC, comes back as a mismatch.

Step 3: contact and address

3

Address and authorised representative

4 minutes

Next comes your registered business address and the person who can answer for the account. The authorised representative should be a real person at your company, since carriers do occasionally follow up.

  1. Click Country and select United States.
  2. Click State/Province/Region and select your state, for example Illinois.
  3. Click the Street address field and type your street address, for example 233 South Wacker Drive. Use your registered address rather than a mailbox service.
  4. Click the Postal/ZIP code field and type your ZIP code, for example 60606.
  5. Click the City field and type your city, for example Chicago.
  6. Click the First name field under authorized representatives and type the authorised person's first name, for example Adam.
  7. Click the Last name field and type the last name, for example Zampa.
  8. Click the Email field and type the same business domain email you can access for the OTP, for example yapit91253@fidhost.com. You will need to open this inbox in a moment.
  9. Click the Phone number field and type the authorised person's phone number, for example (870) 345-0042.
  10. Click Job position and select the job position, for example Director.
  11. Click Continue.

Step 4: verify your email

4

Email verification

2 minutes

A popup appears asking you to verify your email address. This is the point where an inaccessible inbox stops everything, so have it open.

  1. Click Send OTP or Start Verification.
  2. Check that inbox for the 6 digit code, and look in spam if it has not arrived within a couple of minutes.
  3. Enter the 6 digit code in the verification fields.

Send the one-time code to the same business email you entered

Enter the six digit code from that inbox, then Verify

Everything up to this point was brand registration. Everything after it is campaign registration, describing what you actually intend to send.

Step 5: campaign registration

5

Use case and volume

4 minutes

Now you tell the carriers what your messages are for. Be honest here. Registering a marketing campaign as a customer care campaign to look safer is a common trick and a common reason for later problems.

  1. After verification, open Messaging use case and select your use case, for example Marketing / Promotional. Pick the one that genuinely describes your messages.
  2. Open Messaging volume and select the option that matches your expected SMS volume. Estimate realistically, because overstating volume invites scrutiny and understating it can throttle you later.
  3. Open Chat widget setup.
  4. Click the Business website URL field and type your website with https:// included, for example https://upmish.com/. Leaving off https:// makes HighLevel show an invalid website error, which catches almost everyone once.
  5. Leave My business sends age-gated content as defined by carrier and CTA guidelines unchecked unless that applies to you.
  6. Copy the chat widget code if your opt-in uses the website widget, then install it on your site.

Copy the chat widget code popup with compliance warning for pages that collect phone numbers
Copy the widget code and keep it as the only SMS opt-in on those pages
Your website is being checked

Carriers visit the URL you enter. It needs to be live, it needs a privacy policy, and the opt-in language should be visible on the page where people give their number. A parked domain or a site with no privacy policy is a straightforward rejection.

6

User consent

5 minutes

This is the section that decides most applications. Carriers want proof that recipients agreed to hear from you, and they want your description of that agreement to match the messages you say you will send.

  1. Click User consent.
  2. Complete every required consent checkbox and field shown on that screen so your opt-in matches your sample messages.

What carriers are looking for in that description is specific. Say where the opt-in happens, whether that is a web form, a chat widget, a keyword text or a paper form. Say what the person is agreeing to receive. Include the standard disclosures, message frequency, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out with STOP.

The mismatch trap

If your consent text describes appointment reminders but your sample message is a promotional offer, the application is rejected. Write the consent language and the sample messages together so they describe the same thing.

Step 7: review and submit

7

Final check

3 minutes

Review the summary carefully, then only click the final submit or register button when you are ready, because brand and campaign registration can include carrier fees. Resubmitting after a rejection can mean paying again.

Before you click, check these five things.

  • Legal name matches your registration documents exactly, including LLC or Inc.
  • EIN is correct, digit for digit.
  • Business email is on your own domain and verified.
  • Website loads, has a privacy policy, and shows opt-in language.
  • Consent description and sample messages describe the same kind of message.

Sole proprietor registration

If you do not have an EIN, there is a sole proprietor path. At the tax ID question you select that your business does not have a tax ID, and the form adapts.

Sole proprietor registration is lighter on paperwork and heavier on limits. You get a much lower daily message allowance, you are restricted to a single phone number, and marketing use cases face more scrutiny than they would under a registered brand.

My honest advice. If you are running a real business and sending any volume of SMS, get an EIN and register properly. Applying for one is free and takes minutes on the IRS website. The sole proprietor route is a workaround for someone testing, not a foundation for a business that depends on messaging.

Why A2P registrations get rejected

These are the reasons that come up again and again. Each one is avoidable.

Business name mismatch

The legal name entered does not match state or IRS records. An abbreviation, a missing LLC, or a trading name instead of the registered one all fail the automated check.

Fix: copy the name character for character from your registration documents.

Free email domain

A Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook address on the business email field. Carriers treat this as a signal that the business may not be legitimate.

Fix: use an address on the domain your website runs on.

Website problems

The site does not load, has no privacy policy, or shows no opt-in language anywhere.

Fix: publish a privacy policy and make sure the form collecting phone numbers states what people are agreeing to.

Consent and sample mismatch

The consent description says one thing and the sample messages say another. This is the single most common cause of an A2P rejected status.

Fix: write both together so they describe the same message type.

Vague opt-in description

Answers like customers sign up on our website tell the reviewer nothing.

Fix: name the exact page, the exact form, and the exact checkbox wording.

Wrong use case

Selecting a lighter use case than your actual messages to seem safer. Carriers audit traffic against the registered use case.

Fix: register the use case that matches what you will really send.

What happens after you submit

Brand registration usually clears faster than campaign registration. Brand approval can come back within a day or two. Campaign approval commonly takes several business days, and can be longer when carriers are busy.

You can watch the status in the Trust Center. Once both show approved, link your phone number to the approved campaign and send a test message to a real handset. Do not assume delivery works because the platform shows sent.

Compliance review runs after you proceed, with chat widget and opt-in checks in progress

If you are rejected, the status usually carries a reason. Read it, correct that specific thing, and resubmit. Do not change five things at once, because you will not learn what the actual problem was.

Common questions

Is A2P 10DLC registration required in GoHighLevel?

Yes, for sending SMS to US numbers. It is a carrier requirement rather than a GoHighLevel one. Without it, messages are throttled, filtered or blocked.

Where is the Trust Center in GoHighLevel?

Inside a sub account, under Settings, then Phone System, then Trust Center. It does not appear in the agency view, which is why people cannot find it.

How long does GoHighLevel A2P approval take?

Brand registration often clears in a day or two. Campaign registration commonly takes several business days. Both statuses show in the Trust Center.

Why was my A2P registration rejected?

Most often a business name that does not match official records, a free email domain, a website without a privacy policy or opt-in language, or consent text that does not match the sample messages.

Can I register as a sole proprietor without an EIN?

Yes, there is a sole proprietor path. It carries much lower message limits and a single number restriction. If you send real volume, getting an EIN and registering as a business is the better route.

Does A2P registration cost anything?

Carriers charge fees for brand and campaign registration, and these are separate from your GoHighLevel plan. That is why you should only submit once everything is correct.

Can I send SMS while waiting for approval?

Delivery is unreliable until the campaign is approved. Messages may go through, get filtered, or fail silently. Wait for approval before running anything that matters.

The verdict

GoHighLevel A2P 10DLC registration is tedious rather than difficult. The form is long, but every field has a right answer, and almost every rejection traces back to one of five avoidable mistakes.

Get three things right and you will usually pass first time. Use your exact legal business name, use an email on your own domain, and write your consent description and sample messages together so they describe the same thing.

Do it before you build campaigns, not after. Discovering that your SMS never arrived because registration was never completed is a painful way to learn this.
